Greg Paradine, Director

On July 22, 2009, Greg Paradine became the first-ever Director of Lacrosse at Lenoir-Rhyne University and serves as the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach. Paradine built the lacrosse program from the ground up and now has the Bears as one of the nation's elite programs.

Paradine guided the Bears to the best season in program history during 2018 and was named USILA Division II National Coach of the Year. In the second game of the season, Paradine and the Bears orchestrated a 17-13 win over No. 1, and reigning National Champion, Limestone on Saints Field. LR won a record 17 games against just three losses. Of those three defeats, two came by one goal. The Bears went a perfect 8-0 in league play en route to winning its third straight South Atlantic Conference Championship. In total, the Bears have won 24 straight regular season league game. Paradine also coached the Bears to their first-ever NCAA Tournament win, a 14-12 triumph over Colorado Mesa on May 12 which gave the Bears the opportunity to host the Division II National Semifinal. The Bears lost a heartbreaker to Saint Leo 12-11 to close out the season. 

In 2017, Paradine helped the Bears make program history by winning the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the program's seventh year of existence. Lenoir-Rhyne also hosted an NCAA Tournament quarterfinal game for the first time in program history in May. The Bears won the SAC Regular Season Championship for the second consecutive year, and it was their third overall conference title in addition to winning it in 2014. Paradine led an offense that was particularly effective in 2017 as they were top ten in the country in both scoring and man-up offense. The Bears finished the 2017 with a record of 12-3, and ranked No. 7 in the country.

Paradine oversaw a team that in 2017 that was among the most decorated in the country. Michael Hanlon was named the SAC Player of the Year, Eric Dickinson was named the SAC Freshmen of the Year and Coach Paradine was named the SAC Coach of the Year. The Bears had seven players who earned All-SAC Recognition. The year 2017 also saw two Bears named All-Americans as Mike Hanlon and Collin Lett were named USILA Third Team.

Lenoir-Rhyne finished the 2016 season 12-4 on the year including an 8-0 mark in conference play and finished the year ranked No. 13 in the nation.  The Bears also won their last 11 games of the season, and captured the SAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships. The 2016 season marked the third straight year that Lenoir-Rhyne has played in the SAC Championship game. In addition, Paradine coached a school record seven All-South Atlantic Conference performers in 2016.  All told, Paradine has a record of 60-46 as Bears mentor.

In his first-ever season with the Bears in 2011, Paradine guided Lenoir-Rhyne to four wins and was named the Deep South Conference Co-Coach of The Year.

Paradine came to Lenoir-Rhyne after serving as an assistant lacrosse coach the past seven years at his alma mater, the University of North Carolina.

Paradine oversaw many of the day-to-day operations of the Tar Heel Lacrosse Program in addition to serving as an offensive and a defensive coach.

Paradine also helped spearhead the Tar Heels’ recruiting efforts, including five consecutive Top 10 classes – No. 6 in 2005, No. 4 in 2006, No. 7 in 2007 and 2008 and No. 6 in 2009.

Paradine also oversaw the development of Ronnie Staines into a first-team All-American defenseman in 2004. Staines became the first Tar Heel to cop first-team honors since 1993 when Paradine himself joined teammate Alex Martin on the No. 1 USILA All-American squad. In addition, Stephen McElduff was named a third-team All-American in 2005 under the tutelage of Paradine.

Paradine, who graduated from North Carolina in December of 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in geography, was a four-year letterwinner from 1990-93. He played on four Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Teams and four NCAA Tournament squads. In addition, Paradine was part of the 1991 NCAA National Championship squad, 1993 national finalists and 1990 and 1992 semifinalists.  Paradine was a first-team All-American in 1993 and an honorable mention All-American in 1992.

Before returning to North Carolina, Paradine served as head lacrosse coach at Chapel Hill High School from 1998 to 2002. He led the Tigers to three PAC-Six Conference Titles (2000-02) and was named the PAC-Six Coach of The Year in 2001. The Tigers were the North Carolina High School Lacrosse Association runners-up in both 2001 and 2002. Paradine also coached three high school All-Americans at Chapel Hill.

Paradine’s first coaching stint at North Carolina took place from August of 1995 to May of 1997 after he coached two years at Ohio State (January of 1994 to May of 1995).
